EbonyPoet's Poetikvibez

A Mental Journey "From The Soul of a Poet:

             Gene Cole "EbonyPoet"

As I lie amongst my poetry

I made a bed upon my poetry

Words that capture the essence of me

As I found solace within nouns and verbs

Capturing the free-flow of life through pronouns and adverbs

I lie amongst syllables

Resting upon soliloquies

Peacefulness amongst words

As I lie amongst my poetry

The things I see and feel

The motion of my mind reveals

Comforted by life’s sounds and imagery

As my thoughts and emotions turn into to poetry

I lie amongst verses

Of Maya and Nikki

From “Still I rise” to “The River Niger”

Verses from Langston and Countee

I find a moment of solace

Something tranquil and like a smooth jazz melody

I become one with my thoughts

As I lie amongst my poetry

Verses that flow

Like a smooth poetic up-tempo

Interlocking each syllable

As life within my mind constantly grows

I lie amongst sentences

Consonants, vowels and adjectives

A union of syllables that define

The images and sounds that flow within my mind

I lie amongst couplets

Haiku’s, tanka and sonnets

Ballads, acrostic and ABC

Dissecting and molding 51 types of poetry

Poetry combined universally

From Dunbar, Brooks and Wheatley

From Baraka, Sanchez and Randall

Frost, Amani, Spellman, Emanuel

Through each pen rotation

Poetry has become my foundation

Upon a bed of fantasy and reality

I capture the breath of society

Life inspires me

Her sounds and imagery

And like a poetic surgeon I dissect it

Mold it, reconstruct it, and intertwine it into a written concept

I lie amongst 26 letters of the alphabet

Mixed into words of a written dialect

I lie amongst a century of intellect

As poetry gives me that relaxing effect

As I lie amongst my poetry…

I lie amongst images and sounds

Verses of verbs and nouns

Contents of syllables and adjectives

And well-placed adverbs and pronouns

Words unfold

Fantasy and reality waiting to be told

Of things one sees and feel

Through the essence of poetry the art of life is revealed

I lie amongst The River Niger

And Backlash Blues

As I Rise to Poem for Black boys

From Maya to Nikki to Countee and back to Langston Hughes

I lie amongst tears

The emotions of sadness and fears

Of times when life was great

Through a poet’s words syllables debate

To me

Art is the start of endless possibilities

To take ones God given capabilities

And to use them wisely

To inject

The essence of life through dialect

A written concept

That nourishes ones intellect
